on canal, a sliver of sidewalk attempts to mimic parisian leisure, or at least its visible manifestations. here, patrons perch, enacting a certain european ideal while the incessant drone of manhattan traffic provides a decidedly un-parisien soundtrack. the wine flows, or so it seems, through a crowd that appears perpetually ready to depart, even as they sit. a commendable effort, if a little strained. visit late afternoon, as the sun begins its inevitable surrender.
